Tip Toes

Second piece I did for Sabriel Week on Tumblr. Here's a little fic I wrote for this.

Even before his growth spurt as a teen, Sam was always taller than the girls he went out with. His height didn't give him some extra sense of dominance or manliness or anything. It made his neck hurt a little, sure, bending down to meet someone's lips, but that was just how it was. He remembered how Jess used to joke about finding a stool to stand on when they kissed. She would call it a "make-out stool."

Gabriel was no different. With a good eight inches between his mouth and Sam's, Sam would always end up assuming that familiar half-bent position. He didn't mind, though. Gabriel was worth a little neck ache (especially since Gabe could hold a kiss for an impossibly long time).

That changed the first time Gabriel pulled out his wings for Sam. The tawny appendages beat softly, raising Gabe a few inches off the ground. Sam was speechless. Gabriel had a proud smile on his face. He grabbed Sam's hands, pulling them up with him.

It felt as if Gabriel was going to fly off at any moment. Sam gripped the smaller man's hands tight. He tilted his head up to meet Gabriel's gaze, finally planting a gentle kiss on his lover's lips. And for the first time in his life, Sam got on tip toes to do it.

And he kind of liked it.
